Workshop on 'Efficient EM simulation of modern applications with FDTD'

Highly integrated RF frontends are a key component for K/Ka-band satellite communications on-the-move, multimedia entertainment systems, 5G mobile communication as well as 60 GHz broadband home access equipment and backbone networks. Designing such complex modules can be a real challenge. An ideal solution for this demanding task is EMPIRE: a full wave 3D EM-field solver based on FDTD. The simulation technique and different RF frontend designs composed of not only a large number of antenna elements but also of complex multilayer feeding structures, RF-transitions, and power combiners will be presented in the first part.

The second part will introduce the modelling with EMPIRE XPU 7.5 and is followed by an interative tutorial. The detailed agenda is available here.
